Khaled BicharaCairo, November 14th, 2011: Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E (OTH) (“Company”) announced today that Khaled Bichara, Executive Chairman,  has submitted his resignation from his position as Executive Chairman and Board of Directors Member by the end of December 2011. Until this date, he will continue to assume all responsibilities of his current position.  In due course, the  board will elect the new Chairman of the Board.  The Board of OTH would like to extend their gratitude to Khaled Bichara for the tremendous efforts he has exerted over the years as an Executive Member and then Executive Chairman of the Board, and the pivotal role he played in the transformation of OTH into a leading global telecommunications company.   Ahmed Abou Doma, CEO of Orascom Telecom Holding, said: “I would like to thank Khaled for his hard work, which paved the way for a smooth integration with  VimpelCom and which will serve as a foundation to allow the company to operationally excel in the future”.
Khaled Bichara commented: “I joined the Orascom Telecom Group 12 years ago as Chief Internet Strategist and CEO of Link and moved up to fill the positions of Chief Operating Officer of OTH, then Chief Executive Officer, and finally  Executive  Chairman over the past three years. Having spent these long years leading and growing telecom businesses
in Italy, Africa and Asia, I am very proud of the Group we have built today in light of our operational achievements across the business and I believe that  Orascom Telecom Holding as part of the enlarged VimpelCom Group is absolutely the right home to still new heights and to continue providing the best value to its shareholders following the
Group’s vision to be one of the leaders in telecom operations worldwide.”  He said: “I had planned to move on to pursue new business opportunities, and am happy to leave having secured the  targeted synergies  from the merger between Wind Telecom and VimpelCom and  with  the execution of the synergy roadmap and the targets for technology procurement and commercial development to benefit OTH from this merger being well on track.  I am well aware that it is the efforts of the entire executive team and board members of Orascom Telecom that got us here. I thank the board of
Orascom Telecom for the trust they have put in me, and the entire team of Orascom Telecom Holding management and employees for the incredible support they have given me.”
He also added: “It was indeed a very dynamic and exciting ride, and I am very grateful for the chance to play a role in this extraordinary success story.  I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, and I hope my successor can take the company on to even greater heights.

Orascom wants key role in nation’s growth

BEIRUT: Group CEO of Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) Khaled Bichara said Monday his firm is willing to play an important role in contributing to the economic growth in Lebanon.

“Orascom Telecom is continuously seeking new avenues for growth. In that perspective, Lebanon represents significant opportunities since it is at the stage of rapid development and has major growth potential,” he said. (more…)

LAHORE: Mobilink, Pakistan’s market leader in cellular services and part of Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH), has posted strong revenues, higher EBITDA and increasing subscriber base in the first quarter of 2010 as compared to the same period last year.

According to the results published by OTH Mobilink subscriber base increased by 11.8%, closing at 31.6 million at the end of Q1 2010. (more…)

Orascom Telecom Holding’s group CEO Khaled Bichara says the firm is ready to make a merger play in Bangladesh, where it operates no. 2 cellco Banglalink.

“We’ll either buy someone or merge with someone by holding the majority stake, as we’re…a size that is big enough [to do that] for the Bangladesh market,” Bichara told the Daily Star. (more…)

Khaled Bichara’s first 100 days as the chief executive of Orascom Telecom have reminded him of his formative years founding an internet business in the Web’s frontier days.
The internet entrepreneur set up Linkdotnet, one of Egypt’s first internet service providers, in 1996, and sold it to Orascom three years later. Last November the founder of Orascom, Naguib Sawiris, introduced Mr Bichara as his successor as chief executive. His new challenge, to lead Orascom into a new era where mobile operators make money selling music, banking services and digital media, is one that eluded even the efforts of his accomplished predecessor.
